The Mouthy Mermaid Talks About Healing Today……

Dear Readers,

Good Morning and as always thank you for all the love and reading my blog.

Well, if you have been reading and following, you know that I was on the news sharing my son’s story of addiction.

I think you should be able to see it from this link or you can go to

It was a total trip!!!!!!!   So many people reached out to me to say thank you for being so blunt, if it’s one thing I am is direct, usually.  The story got my point across.  I also got pics from Michael’s HS yearbooks that were on the news and most of all they keep showing the story.

The reason I did this:  One life at a time, one family at a time:  A young women reached out to me and I know she is a reader and thanked me because her sister listened to her when she told her about Michael’s story and got off the opioids.  She is now on her way to wellness.

So, all of that aired on Thursday, Friday my phone was blowing up and Saturday I was a speaker on a radio show.  Hmmmmm.  Maybe I will take this story to Dr. Phil, I did go on his website and fill out the information.

AND, a really interesting thing happened.  I reached out to Michael’s wife, we have not spoken since the day he died and she came over and we had some sort of healing.  She is still very sad and angry and can’t move out of all that.  But, at least we talked and I feel no more anger in my heart.  Thank you God.

Needless to say, I was exhausted yesterday.  I took a nice long nap and really just woke up.  Good for me.

Today, I am going to spend time with one of my favorite people and I am looking forward to that, Aunt Rae Jacob.

So, that’s my story of the day.  This is a week I am taking care of me:  My shoulder isn’t in good shape and I have an appointment with a shoulder doctor, YUCK, so we will see how that goes.

And, I am still looking at the vacuum in my living room and my shoulder is saying NO so I will listen I guess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is a short blog but I did want to touch base and tell you all my story.

Thelma, The Mouthy Mermaid

PS:  Mr is a trip about how supportive he is about all of my going public.  He is pretty private……I love Mr.

And don’t forget Barbara’s book:

A great book.

The Mouthy Mermaid Shares Her Recent Blessings, Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning My Dear Readers,

As always I am sending my love and appreciation to all of you!!!!!!

Yesterday was a cosmic day and a day filled with blessings and I’m going to tell you all about it.

Love and Blessings

Most of this summer, I have been floating in the pool, looking at the sky and trying to figure out what’s next for me, hmmmmm, that’s always a great question in the contemplation of life, what’s next?  Well, I have been praying and manifesting WHAT’S NEXT.  Well, as usual God answers.

  1. The news anchor from our local channel 13, CBS is coming today at 1 to interview me about Michael’s story.  I am not even nervous.  We are going to sit outside by the pool and visit.  She has asked me to share pictures and all kinds of stuff.  I don’t have much as his wife refused to give me anything but I do have some stuff but mostly I have memories.  I really trust her as she as won an Emmy and her story got the attention of Dr. Phil.  So, I am ready to talk to her.  This story will be aired on 8/3 on the 10:00 news as part of an investigative report on the drug problem in Tucson.  AND YES, I GOT MY HAIR DONE 🙂  I told Mr this morning, we may have to set the alarm to watch LOL.
  2. Some of you may know sometimes I do elderly care.  I do companion care only for people I know and like.  Well, my lady who I have had for 1 year recently went into assisted living and I still go once a week but I have lost a good chuck of change.  It’s interesting how these elderly people come to me.  I get calls all the time but I only do it if I feel it is right.  Yesterday, a dear friend called me about helping her brother, who used to work for my dad and I accepted the job.  I am pretty excited as I got a 289.00 electric bill and we are going on a trip AND THIS IS HOW I GIVE BACK.  So interesting like Aunt Rae says how we are all connected.  More on this later.
  3. I do marketing for people, lots of internet stuff or blogs or whatever to help them get more exposure.  Well, I hate to check my email, mail or phone messages.  I don’t know why, it’s stressful for me.  So yesterday, I see I have 60+ emails so I decide to look at them.  I have an email from a guy who writes travel books and cook books and he is a referral from a friend and he wants me to help him.  So, I did some research on him and he is a retired CIA person who also owns his own security consulting business.  WHAT!!!!!  We are going to talk on Friday.  CIA, what a trip.  I hope he likes me.  I am not exactly CIA material.
  4. We decided to sell my car as it is old, needs  work, and we have too many cars.  So, Mr and I go to the car wash  to get it cleaned up before I post it on CL.  I was chatting with the car wash manager about the car and told him I wanted to sell it.  Well, he called me and came over last week and looked at it and asked me if he could bring his mechanic over and they all came over yesterday and went over the car and so on.  And we made and deal and they wanted to pray and we did and today we meet at the bank at 3.  I know after all of that they will show up, because of course now the guy across the street wants to buy it.
  5. And all of that was yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, moral of the story, be positive, put out good energy, help others and good things happen, right?????

It finally rained here, thank you God, a huge rain, with lightening and wind and thunder.  It was fabulous and really cooled us down.  I hope I won’t have a 289.00 electric bill this month and sometimes I don’t even care as long as I am not hot, the dogs are not hot and Mr isn’t hot.  Mr is working tons of overtime right now.  I woke up at 4:30 just to see him this morning.  This is the season the telephone poles go down.

And for the news story…….I have been blessed with the ability to use my voice, my voice to talk about Michael’s story in hopes it will help another user, another family or something.  I am using my voice for all the families I have met who have also suffered such a tragic loss.  You parents also keep coming to me like my elderly people.  I don’t know how or why.

So, I am busy today, busy getting ready for the news lady.  I cleaned on Sunday so I really don’t have much to do except be busy.  We are doing the interview outside by the pool next to my holy garden.  I have to pray and meditate today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Really not kidding.

So, say a prayer that these people really do meet me at the bank at 3.  Of course they didn’t want to leave a deposit but we all held hands and prayed so I guess that’s a deposit.

Think about me today at 1:00 MST.   I will be thinking about all of you.

And, if you know any families struggling with addiction issues remember my friend Barbara Fredricks and her book, Addictions and Family Healing.  It is really hard for me to read this because it could have been my story or any of our story.

Sending Mermaid Love to All,

Love, Thelma, The Mouthy Mermaid

The Mouthy Mermaid Says, “So Much Going On and So Much to Be Grateful For!”

Good Morning Dear Readers,

As my title says, “So much going on and yes, I am grateful!”  We had a really fun party on Saturday celebrating our Freedom.  And, yes in these times it’s a difficult concept for me.  I really try to stay away from negative news.  I did have a person here wanting to bait me and argue with me about how wonderful his president is and I told him “This is not up for discussion.”  Mr. had already warned me about his friend.  As I have always said through out this political time, everyone has a right to their opinion.

This is a public domain picture because I learned a lesson about copy write.

Well, next:  Our local CBS new affiliate is coming over tomorrow at noon to interview me about Michael’s story of addiction.  I call it “The Highway To Hell.”  After it’s all done and said, what happens to us, the families??????  So, today, I am going to clean up a bit and get organized.  I am blessed to use my voice to address this issue, I guess?

And, I am having regular life coaching sessions with my friend Barbara Fredricks.  Here is a bit about Barbara:

We met a couple of years ago at a book fair that I was attend with my Aunt Rae.  Barbara is a Life Coach with an interesting background and all the right letters behind her name, as well as the author of “Addictions and Family Healing.”  Her book is about her son’s addiction and eventual recovery.  It’s a great book for anyone going through a loved one’s addiction.  She is a PK, (preacher’s kid) from Texas who became a special ed teacher because of course her son had a reading disability.  Later that same son’s addiction led her to become a therapist specializing in addiction and family recovery.  She gratefully says that she owes her career to her son.

My friends book is wonderful and so is she.

After being a therapist for many years, working with others issues as well as substance abuse, she became fascinated with he field of life coaching for people who  didn’t need extensive therapy but wanted someone to support them in moving on with their lives and regaining their peace and joy.  The people who have gone to her certainly seem to be on that happy road (ME, I am getting happier)!

Barbara’s specializes in anyone in transition, family dysfunction, recovery, loss, retirement or just feeling stuck.  She is fabulous, smart, educated and most important affordable.  My dear friend can work with you on the phone or in person,  you can contact her at or message me for more information.

You will read more about Barbara in the future.

Today, I am grateful for life, for a voice to fight addiction, for my lovely dogs and for my friends and family and of course for you all, my readers.

And, I am on count down time, 23 days until we go to San Diego!!!!!!!!!!!  Thank you Dear God.  It is so HOT here and so many fires.  Pray for Arizona.

Sending Happiness and Love to everyone today and as always thank you for reading The Mouthy Mermaid.

Holiday Time for Parents Who Lose Children – The Mouthy Mermaid Doesn’t Even Know Where To Go With This??

Good Morning Dear Readers,

It is such a pleasure to be back and to be blogging for me again and to be interacting with ya all.

As this weekend rolls around I want to talk about something that is never very far away from me.  What do we do about Holidays when we lose a child especially to DRUGS or anything.

So far this year, I have been OK, OK is a very vague word and it’s a very weird and vague feeling.  I really guess, VAGUE is the way I feel about all of this.

What is the real definition of VAGUE:

From my friend

Definition of vague

  1. 1a :  not clearly expressed :  stated in indefinite terms vague accusationsb :  not having a precise meaning a vague term of abuse

  2. 2a :  not clearly defined, grasped, or understood :  indistinct only a vague notion of what’s needed; also :  slight a vague hint of a thickening waistline hasn’t the vaguest ideab :  not clearly felt or sensed :  somewhat subconscious a vague longing

  3. 3:  not thinking or expressing one’s thoughts clearly or precisely vague about dates and places

  4. 4:  lacking expression :  vacant vague eyes a vague stare

  5. 5:  not sharply outlined :  hazy

Well, I guess that truly sums it up, hazy, vacant, longing, etc.  Lots to think about.  VAGUE……MY NEW WORD.

Stories of these kids who have passed away from DRUG OVERDOSES, keep coming to me.  I met a server at our local breakfast restaurant, who recently lost her daughter, a dear friend, her step-daughter, and old friend of Mr’s son, and the stories keep coming and the DRUGS keep taking our loved ones.

I have been on a crazy journey this last year and have found a voice about this terrible epidemic.

I was honored to be on a Christian radio show  around the anniversary of Michael’s death to talk about his. And a friend marched at a march for Opioid Addiction in Washington D.C. and shared Michael’s story.  So, I am a mother with a big mouth and a big voice about all of this.

His story was in our local paper on our celebration of the Day of The Dead:  Can I say how surprised to see this on the Front Page:

‘My whole thing is letting his spirit go’

By:  Kathleen Allen, In The Arizona Daily Star

Andrea Bryant‘s son, Michael Elliott, was 33 when he died of a heroin overdose in March. “This will be my first time walking, but I really feel I need to do it for the spiritual aspect,” she says.

Michael had a troubled adulthood, and while she never wavered in her love for him, Bryant holds on to the boy she raised.

“The Michael I loved was such a cheery, curly-haired redhead. A funny, sweet kid. He was the kid the teacher called you about. He was so funny, but he was so disruptive. He was a loyal, kind human. He loved animals. Michael grew up in Tucson, went to Catalina High School, was a football player, prom king. He had a really big heart and a really big soul. … He had a serious football injury when he was in high school. That’s where he got his first taste of legal dope, and really could never get it together after that. I’m very open about his story; we need to call it exactly what it is.”

She’ll walk the procession in costume, holding a large picture of Michael. “My whole thing is letting his spirit go.”

Needless to say, I couldn’t do the walk because the dog died that day.  Good, that made me laugh as I was crying right now.

So, Renee Stambaugh and so many of the other wonderful parents I have met on this journey, how do we do it?  My answer: We do it.  I really don’t see any other way around it.

And we think about them, and do a special gesture, whatever that may be for you.  AND WE DO IT.  And we keep educating everyone we come in contact with about OPIOID ABUSE AND WE KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING.

So, as this Holiday about renewal is coming, remember the people you love, do something kind for someone, keep an open mind, don’t judge and help someone if you can and CELEBRATE LOVE, LOVE FOR GOD IF THAT’S YOUR THING, LOVE FOR THE UNIVERSE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY LOVE FOR YOU……..

And, No, I’m not depressed, I am pretty good.  Life is good and I am always blessed with abundance.

Love and More Love,

Thelma, The Mouthy Mermaid
